Academic Excellence

At Overland Academy of Excellence, academic achievement is more than strong test scores—it’s about equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and character they need to thrive in school and in life.

A Knowledge-Rich Curriculum

We believe that foundational knowledge opens doors—and that all students deserve access to a well-rounded education rooted in cultural literacy. Our curriculum is anchored in the work of Dr. E.D. Hirsch, whose research supports the idea that shared knowledge empowers students and helps level the opportunity playing field.

  • Spiraling K–8 Curriculum: Carefully sequenced to avoid gaps and redundancies, ensuring mastery across subjects

  • Core Focus: Reading, math, and writing as essential life and learning skills

  • Broad Exposure: History, science, literature, the arts, and physical education

  • High School Emphasis: Pathways in Humanities or STEM, allowing students to explore interests and prepare for college or careers

Instruction that Grows

At Overland Academy, how we teach is just as important as what we teach. Our instructional philosophy follows the Trivium of Classical Education—adapting teaching methods to match each stage of cognitive development.

  • Grammar Stage (K–4): Focus on absorbing facts, foundational skills, and language
  • Logic Stage (5–8): Students explore cause and effect, reasoning, and analysis
  • Rhetoric Stage (9–12): Emphasis on persuasion, self-expression, and leadership

As students grow, so does the depth of instruction—moving from structure to dialogue and culminating in Socratic seminars.

  • Class Sizes: Intentionally kept to 24–26 to allow for meaningful engagement
  • Young Scholars Culture: Students are treated as thinkers and doers from the very start

The Overland Difference

Academic excellence at Overland Academy isn’t about teaching to the test—it’s about preparing students to think deeply, work diligently, and engage with the world around them. With a curriculum rooted in substance and a culture built on challenge and care, we help students grow into capable, confident learners who are ready for whatever comes next.
